Excursions

PRINT

Each month Gateway Argentina plans an excursion for all program participants, friends of participants and anyone looking to get out of the city.   Our excursions are planned to introduce you to many new locations in Argentina.   Some excursion destinations are far away locations while others are as close as Tigre and the Rio Delta. Right across the mouth of the Rio de la Plata, is the country of Uruguay. Colonia Uruguay is also a popular destination. Here are some examples of our destinations.

Tigre

There is much to be discovered here. Located just outside of the city of Buenos Aires, Tigre can be reached by train.  This revitalized port city is a great weekend getaway. While in Tigre you can enjoy rowing on the Rio de la Plata, camping or a Parrilla (BBQ) at many of the sites that line the river. The Mercado de Frutos, a huge outdoor street market offers great buys for antiques and leather goods.

Iguazu

The spectacular waterfalls on the Argentine and Brazilian border are often named as a sight people should see before they die. The falls are just a bus trip away from Buenos Aires.

An exciting way to see the falls is on a boat trip through the falls. Visitors can also explore the surrounding rain forest and see some of the local wildlife.

The town of Puerto Iguazu has dozens of bars and restaurants for travellers. Be prepared to cool down in a hot spot, or heat up in a cool location.

Excursions to Iguazu are best in March, April and May during the height of the rainy season, when there is always an abundance of water moving through the falls.

Cordoba

Cordoba is a bustling Spanish colonial city with more than 100,000 students at the public university. The city boasts wide pedestrian shopping walkways and quaint town squares.

Outside of town it is possible to visit the childhood home of the communist soldier Che Guevara.  Now a fascinating museum, it has been visited by many important Latin American leaders, including Cuban leader Fidel Castro.

Close by the German town of General Belgrano comes to life every year with Argentina’s own Octoberfest.

Excursions to Cordoba are best during the months of October, November and December when the climate is perfect for a day in the mountains.

Mendoza

Argentina's wine region, it also is a base for hiking, rafting, skiing and fishing.

Mountain climbers flock here in summer, hoping to summit Mount Aconcagua, one of the world’s highest, most challenging mountains.

Mendoza is the capital of Argentina’s wine industry. A fun way to explore the vineyards or ‘bodegas’, as they are known by the locals, is by bicycle.

Trips to Mendoza are planned throughout the year to take part in different seasonal activities.

Patagonia region
